Worried about my week old chick!

Chicks do fall asleep standing a fair amount. They'll sway and nod and eventually lay down usually.

The only time one of my chicks was doing a strange amount of sleeping while standing (and seemed generally fatigued, falling asleep in our hands all the time) it also had some wet stool so I treated for cocci. Not sure if this was truly the cause but I wanted to be safe.

how do you know if cocci? How do you treat it? I have an EE w loose poop today & kind of worried. 6 days old.

Sleeping a lot, diarrhea (not to be confused with cecal poop), sometimes you will see blood in stool but not always. Again, I am not even totally sure my chick had cocci, BUT if it is and left untreated often is fatal. All I know is that she was fine for a week and a half and then suddenly seemed VERY off. Treatment is corid which can be bought at your local farm or feed store.

should I treat with Corid on entire flock-just in case, or wait for more signs? Half got vaccinated with maraks and other half couldn't as they were to old already. All have had the electrolytes & probiotics in the water each day so far for 6days. The powder from hatchery.

our marans is the same way, loves being held and is more laid back than the other chicks; she is the only marans we have.
I also have a French Black Copper Marans in the brooder. Not sure of the sex, but it's not calm and relaxed like the BS Marans at all! I also have 2 Cuckoo Marans hens that are now 2 years old and I don't remember them being relaxed like this at all!

Grey was eating and drinking last night. She was snoozing when I looked in on this morning, but jumped right up and ran around when I changed the food and water. She seems healthy other than her super mellow disposition! Fingers crossed that she's just a super sweet bird!

Opinions on this differ. If you really feel you are dealing with cocci many people do treat the whole flock. You can also just give the sick one a drench solution. I treated only my sick one because all of other chicks are 2 weeks older. My theory was that she just got too much exposure too fast. The others had already built up immunity slowly through increasingly longer trips outside starting at 1 week, whereas she had just been thrown in with the big girls and was doing what they did (and was exposed to their poop) from day 1.

thank you for all your help and suggestions. I'm not sure as none of them have ever acted super tired or any other signs I guess I will just keep my eyes on them and be ready to get meds if need be. But IF I do then I'll treat entire flock. Would DE help? I do have that and can sprinkle in feeder
