Worried about neighbor's loose beagle getting my chickens!

I also have dogs that come on to our property 2 labs and other big dogs. i don't know who the onwer's are but every time we see them we scare them off but they come back and i'm wored cause i have 3 cats that are inside and outside cats and since we have dogs ( that are trained to never set a paw off our property and are always keep an eye on) there not scared of other dogs thinking that a dog is a dog. then i get chickens i'm putting eletric fance around both the coop and the run so hopefully nothing will get in!

I agree. If my neighbor really cared about her dogs, she wouldn't let them loose where they can get hit by cars, or be shot or taken to an animal shelter. I would never dream of letting my dogs loose like my neighbor does...

Some dogs are homey, but most want to wander. Especially if they haven't been fixed. Luckily where we live now all the neighbors have chickens, so the dogs are totally uninterested in chickens. Fortunately our dogs mostly stay in our yard, but even if they try to leave it starts all the neighbor's dogs barking, so they run back into the yard. I would never leave the house and leave the dogs outside on their own. That is just asking for trouble. I can understand letting the dogs out when you get home, but not letting them loose before you leave..! That is ridiculous.

Most cities, towns & counties have leash laws & this lady is obviously breaking it, that's why I mentioned contacting law enforcement & animal control, they will contact her & ADVISE her that she IS in violation & could lose her dogs plus have a nice fine, if the dogs ARE confiscated, she will have to pay to get them out of "doggie jail. Don't wait until spring, act NOW, this has been going on way too long. This lady needs a wake up call & to be made accountable for her actions, before her animals hurt someone or someone's pet.

I will see if I can contact law enforcement and animal control. I'm not sure if Michigan has a leash law. All of my neighbors have big dogs that don't have leashes. Their dogs are all very obedient, and they stay in their own yard. It's these two dogs that worry me. They are sweet dog's, but they are very naughty and they are not at all obedient. I can't even catch them. They usually race right up to me and try and follow me into my barn, but if I make a grab for them, they run away. They also do not have colors, which makes it even more impossible to catch them. We tried calling animal control the first time they were in our yard, and they said they wouldn't come and get them, and that we had to bring them there. Which we can't do, because we can't catch them. Also, the animal control place close's for the weekend, and they only come one time a weekend to feed the dogs. I really love animals, ad would hate to be the reason a dog goes through that. It's not the dogs fault it is disobedient, it's the owners fault. I might march down to her house and tell her that if she does not keep her dogs in her own yard, I will take her dogs to the animal shelter. The only thing is, is that she is almost never home. People who don't take care of their animals make me really mad

Especially when I had to climb way up in a tree in the freezing cold in my pajama's at 8:00am to rescue my cat.

She does it every day too! Most of the time they run down the street to the dairy farm, the other times they run to my yard. I have seen her come home from work, and she drives about 15 miles an hour down the road looking for her dogs, then when she see's them, she honks the horn and they come running and hop in the car. Then next morning there they are, running around the neighborhood. What really upsets me is that I am the only one in our neighborhood who has any issue with this.

This may seem cold but I shoot every strange dog that comes on my land. I've lost too many chickens due to them so my tolerance is extremely low. The way I see it is if the owner cared anything about their dog they wouldn't let it roam the neighborhood

I am in TOTAL agreement.

We don't live in a neighborhood any more, but do live in the country & seems like people are forever dumping their unwanted pets off out here for us to deal with. They are so starved they'll attack ANYTHING & do, so we also have NO tolerance for irresponsible owners who can't or won't control their "pets".

By leash law, I mean that most places have laws on the books, requiring dog owners to have control of their animals at all times. They are supposed to either be tied up or behind a fence, if not supervised. Check with your local law enforcement or look up your local ordinances yourself on line, that's what my DBF & I did where we used to live. That way you have ordinance in-hand to quote to animal control officer if they resist doing anything for you, also, demand to speak to commanding officer if non-responsive, that's another reason I suggested contacting law enforcement, they can put pressure on animal control & it's on record, plus if law enforcement contacts her, it might wake her up. This lady obviously had absolutely NO respect for any of her neighbors. If you can't catch her home, post a letter on her door informing her of what will happen if her animals are on your property again.

I will never understand why people who don't take care of animals even own them. We just moved here a year ago, and have already had 4 dogs come roaming into our yard. Two were sweet and just got lost. They both had colors and tags and we called their owners who were very grateful and came right away and got them. The other two dogs have an owner that doesn't seem to care that her dogs don't behave, and are terrorizing my neighbors chickens. (Don't think he cares though)

My motto is "If you don't take care of animals, don't get them."

Catch the dogs and have the pound pick them up.Neighbor will need to pay to get them out.Repeat as needed.If the dogs harm sss.If they cause damage take owner to small claims.Don't tolerate it.
