worried about Patch

My little Patch has nose troubles, his nose hole on one side appears to be closed, ben like that sence he hatched, i knew something was amiss when i noticed the skin left side of his face infront of his eye deflates when he takes a breath.

I have cleaned his beak to make sure it was not clogged and i see no air hole at all.
Has anyone ever delt with this beforYou can enlarege the image to origional and you can see the air hole is open on the left side but not the right. at 2 days old

It is hard to see in the photo ,but I would take a knife and open it up and trim it out with scissors. The skin must have just covered it over and there should be an oppening behind it .. connerhills

Oh my
The air hole on the peas is barely the size of the end of a sewing needle in the front of the slit and it would be impossible to do with a knife, and i have shakey hands at times also.. i have never seen this before in any bird and i have hatched 1000's. i guess if it seems to get worse i could open it with a hot needle but i am going to have to wait till a chick has to be culled befoe i can do it because i do not know the structure of the beak on a tiny chick, don't want to much and get to far into his sinus

I will get a better photo.

Funny had this been any other kind of bird here i would cull it yet i feel i have to fix this guy.. darn peas.

Well i got one side open for a second but as soon as i released it it went back into place, it is like the area has been pinced togeather, there is nothing i can do and i am afraid i will have to put him down if it does not grow open by itself, i left the other side alone as it will do no good to try and open it and stress him more so i just have to wait and see how it goes.
Before photo.. the top of his beak is a little roughed up from him pacing the wire door on the brooder when he see's me, i have sence put a peice of shelf liner on it to keep this from happening anymore. oh and he has egg on his face

O K my mistake... I thought the problem was that he didn't have a slot for his eye.. I might suggest he get some Tylan or Baytril,, With his eyes closing and his nose running it could be some kind of infection.

There is nothing wrong with his eyes he just closed them after i wraped him in the cloth to hold him still, he likes to be cuddled so he was ok with the wrap, went right to sleep, just happen to take a photo when he fell asleep.
There is no infection or runny nose the problem is his nose flaps are pinched closed and darn near closed on the other side, he get stressed and he does finely breath from his mouth, all i can do is wait and see how it plays out, hope4 i don't loose him , he is my first hatched here waited almost 3 years for him

How is sweet Patch doing?
Maybe once he gets a bit bigger you'll have better luck helping to open up his nostril.
The fact that you could get it open at all seems to mean that there is no permanent blockage.
We're rooting for the little guy!

He is fine, but no changes in the nostril openings yet, I do hope they open up, I fear as he grows he will not be able to take in sufficient air to fill his lungs properly, he does moth breath when he gets wound up or stressed cause I messed with him more than just cuddling,.

Yesterday I was over by the asparagus weeding and I heard a pea chick, man I was like what the heck, I know it ain't time for the eggs to hatch under my hens , I keep listening and then I felt something on my foot, it was Patch he had apparently came out with me and I never saw him good thing I did not step on him.

I keep thinking about poor little Patch.
From what you say, it seems like his airway is fine, and that the problem is just the opening at the surface that allows air in.
Doing some research online, it looks like the outer layer of the beak is the part pinching his nostril.
This is made up of keratin, like fingernails, and from what you say it seems to be fairly flexible and soft?
I wonder about using something like this cuticle clipper to gently trim the edge of the flap?

I am absolutely NOT an expert on pea beak anatomy...this is just what the situation looks like when I did some online research.
Hopefully someone with more experience can say exactly what kind of tissue is pinching his nostril closed, and whether or not it is safe to trim it.
