Worried is this molting

is this molting or are they being attacked at night by something? Sorry pics aren’t better butt they know when you want a picture.its just two of the girls not all of them the other six adults are fine.

Hard to say but it most likely is molt some of my ducks have started but not all of them yet.

What do you mean are they being attacked by something at night are they secure in a duck house?

I bet they are. I have 2 of my adults molting right now and they look like I never take care of them. Ones flight feathers are gone and the little cartilage things are showing.

Yes they are in there pen at night and they have a shed attached for a house.so unless it was a rat or weasle nothing can get in.Im just worried after five years of raising ducks this is the first time it was this bad.Just over reacting i hope thank you for the feedback

Are you seeing a lot of feathers on the ground? I didn't think my Muscovy's were starting molt yet till 3 got in the pool the other day and left quite a few feathers behind when they got out.

But again if they are in a run with out hardware cloth around it at night good chance something could stick their arm through and grab a duck usually a coon but you'd find a headless duck in the morning a mink or weasel can get through very small opening and they do not leave live ducks behind when they leave. It is said a mink can get through a 1" opening.

The pen has double tarp around the sides over two feet high and roof is covered at night.

Not a lot of feathers on the ground in there pen but they free range all day so there is feathers everywhere in the yard.

Sounds like molt

I don't have Ducks but it does look like their molting especially if you feathers all around on the ground. My Hens do this.

My Rouen female started molting last week. She looks pretty rugged but only for now....
