A few weeks back I wrote in to ask for advice about my broodie hen. She was having some trouble settling in and left her eggs for 4 hours the first morning and another hour or more in the afternoon. Then she appeared in the pen holding a broken egg in her beak. I wondered whether this batch of eggs was a write-off and if I should just start again with a new batch. The majority of folks who offered advice said things would be OK and to just let her continue. Well, you were right! I came home today and there were two little heads peeking out from under their Mama. It's a couple of days earlier than expected, but I'm not surprised since we have been going through a bit of a heat wave the last two weeks. Here's a picture of the first two chicks. A third one has appeared since then, but I hope there will be more tomorrow. The hen started out with 11 eggs... two got broken early on, leaving 11.

This is my first try at posting photos, so keeping my fingers crossed.
