Worry about rotten eggs...

My broody has been on her nest for at least two weeks, I'm thinking closer to three. We thought she wasn't getting up for food but she was off the nest this morning so it gave me a chance to check on the eggs. I'm not sure if they were fertilized or not so my question is- wouldn't they be rotten and stinky by now if they weren't?

No- it is entirely possible for them to be unfertilized and look/smell fine.

So the best way to find out is to candle them.

Get a nice strong flashlight and take them to a darkened room/area to check them.

If one is smelly then it is rotten and should be discarded.
