The same thing happened to me last year and i figure..you learn from the errors you made. Doesnt help u feel better now i know...but chicks are so fragile.
Hope your daughter is better kvmommy.
Fill a container of water to body temperature and put the chicks in, make sure to keep their beaks outside of the water for air. After a couple of minutes, their body temperature will be up enough that you can stick them in a brooder and dry them with a blow dryer. Don't leave them alone until they are warm and dry.
I've saved chicks and baby goats that looked absolutely dead by the warm water method. (The warm water gets their body warm faster than any air method of warming.)
I hope your babies come around. It sounds like you got to them fast enough, and hey maybe it will help DH bond to them!
We have had many broods over the last few years, and we have learned to wire tie the waterer to the side of the container or in some other fashion tie it to something. Even ones with rocks in them they have managed to tip.
It is amazing to me the number of ways they manage to get themselves in trouble!! You're not doing everything wrong! Deep breaths mom~ you're not a chicken and you are still learning how to be a chicken mom! Would you say to some one here on this forum the things you are saying to yourself??? Of course not! Be kind to you.
I can't tell you the number of times this happened to me. I felt terrible too. I just washed them under warm water and dried them on low with the hair dryer and they were fine. The last time they did this (my latest bunch is about 5 weeks old) I went to the pet shop and bought rabbit bottles. I haven't had to clean up wet chicks since! It took them all of 5 minutes to learn how to use them.

One thing that you can pat your back about now, is you'll never make those mistakes again!
Fill it with water that's lukewarm to slightly warm. And don't fill it all the way--I've never seen a water fount that's so vertical. It *DOES* look top heavy. All mine look a little cone-shaped like:
So just fill it halfway and it should be less likely to tip.
I have on like that only i screwed a mason jar on instead of the plastic because plastics are harmful to drink out of. If that plastic thing was all the way full it was probably top heavy.
x 2. I use mason jars for the little ones. I also put marbles in the water when I brood for the first few days so they can't get too wet. They can easily find water between the marbles but can't climb in.
