rofl I used to use a 22 until one of my shots went into the neighbor's porch pillar. Luckily he wasn't sitting out and was very understanding. *I* was mortified and so embarrassed!

From that day on I have only used a 20g. unless it was to dispatch something closer than 5 ft.

Had something very similiar happen to me. Turned out to be a coon. Caught him in the act early in the morning just before dawn. When I got to the coop he had the head of my silkie through the fence, which is 1/2 chicken wire. Had a friend of mine come over with his coon dogs and have not seen a coon near the coop since. Turned the hunter into the hunted.

Stay after him! You'll get him! I've even thought about rubbin' some chickens down with tabasco sauce... One bite and he'd have to put his toilet paper in the freezer!

I've had trouble with racoons. Got him penned in the coop one night and it was like facing a demon. They're are cute till you face them off! Racoons are hateful predators because they mangle their prey and sometimes don't even eat it. Trap him.

I had something get inside a rabbit hutch and eat my young rabbits. It did not pull them through like a coon it was inside. It then sprung two live traps and took the bait. I am pretty sure it actually got inside the live trap and sprung it and them wiggled out. I thought perhaps it was a weasel. It sounds similar to what you have because it tore the legs off of some of the others and left them alive. Miraculously one lived. I have a healthy 3 legged rabbit. I hope you get it. I never was able to get whatever killed our rabbits.
