I walk my dogs every morning aleast a couple of miles out in the farmland behind our place..peaceful,no one for miles.. Rex (the possum killer) and Cat-dog were up ahead of me then Cat got caught in a trap the farmers set out to kill the neutra rats damming up the canals. It was a trap that just chokes & kills them then don't know what there're called.
I was totally freaking out, cursing like a sailor watching my poor baby girl choke to death...
I was trying to figure out how to get this thing off her...she struggled the whole time, had to go off in the ditch she kept moving ....I guess hauling all those 50 bags of feed paid off, I got it loose & she's okay, poor dog.I just broke down crying & saying a few choice words to whomever put that there.
That's country living, I just wish they had soft traps out.
I gave her a bunch of weinees & lots of loving. She's gonna have some puppies in a month or so.My sweet Cat-dog:

Yall have a good one ..Miriam

Miriam, If it wasen't a leg hold trap, it was a conibear trap that are to be used in the water to drown the victims. Here in Wi it is against the law to set those on land, for obvious reasons. Might be worth checking out. Glad to hear you saved your pet.

ILLEGAL!!!
is at least one of the words I'd have used for that trap!
I'm so glad that you were able to save Cat-Dog...I can't imagine how scared you both were.
Nutrias are like little beavers raised for their fur...
I think if I found out who set the trap, I'd stick their head in it.

If it is on your land, I would take the trap and leave a note!!! If it isn't on your land, I would probably take and destroy the trap anyway.

check into the game laws of your state, in most areas, those types of traps are illegal to use unless underwater.... I'm all for trapping, but it should be done responsibly, setting conibear traps out like that is not responsible.

Thanks everyone, I was real shook up about that, too much excitement for me.My old man was ticked off about the whole thing. He's gonna take care it.

Nobody messes with our dogs!!
I googled conibear traps, looks like that what it was.The trap was about a mile from our property. It took all my strength to get that off my girl.Unforunately, farmers rule where I'm at.
I tired to search laws about it,with no luck. They trap neutras in south La,couldn't find a thing about it up here.I guess we'll have to finish fencing off our property,to keep our dogs safe.

Well it's time to release the chickens, holler at ya later,
Miriam

Good grief. I googled "conibear trap" and the first thing that came up was how to get your dog out of one before it is killed. Take a look at this. Who carries a strong boot shoestring with them, tho??

I don't see how in the world you got him out. I would be madder than a wet hen. Hope your hubby "gets it taken care of"!!! Good Luck. Thank goodness you saved the dog--I can't imagine how you did it!

Miriam, If you look up the Louisiana Dept Of Natural Resources and give them a call they could answer your questions, or go to any license outlet that sells trapping license and ask for a free trapping rule book. Just a thought.
