Everywhere, all at once
My CB group of Black Copper Marans pullets have begun laying - and the eggs are just as I'd hoped. And, as a bonus, the pullets are sweet, chatty, lovely creatures, too. So proud of my girls...I can't wait to hatch chicks from these eggs! 💗

I've hatched and raised FBCM for a few years now and my lesson learned is spend the $ on quality eggs from a reputable breeder if you want eggs like these. No filters on these photos. Thanks for letting me brag! 😊

They are gorgeous!
How are FBCMs as layers? How many eggs per week? I've read they aren't that great.

Beautiful!

Thanks!! I've found that the prevailing wisdom of "the darker the egg, the fewer laid" is generally true, at least with past flocks. These pullets haven't been laying for long enough for me to confirm the frequency yet. I have a slightly older group that lays eggs that aren't quite this dark and they surprised me with their consistency - pretty much every other day (in warmer weather). I'm happy to have both. 😁

What beautiful dark eggs!! Did you breed for this shade of egg or were they a great surprise from bought birds?

Ithink I need to get on finding a FBCM breeder for some nice dark brown and olive eggs

What is "CB group"?

Gonna be hard, won't be able to see a thing!

Do you have any blue layers?
That dark line would make awesome Olive eggers!
CB is just my designation for this group. 🙂 Yeah, I'll have to just hope there aren't any exploders! I have some Easter Eggers and Silverudd's Blue (green layers)...right now, I'm growing out a group of SBxBCM (from other dark-laying lines) that I'm hoping will lay some nice olive eggs.

Thank you! 😊 I bought hatching eggs specifically for the color - they were local and I jumped on the opportunity because shipping can be so hard on eggs (I had two groups of eggs shipped from FL last spring that arrived smashed and scrambled). The parent stock of these birds are beautiful, too, and they're some of the calmest and friendliest BCM I've raised.

Hope you get some great eggs! I love olive eggs, too. I have a Marbar (FBCMxCL) that lays a pretty pastel olive egg that's a colorful addition to a basket (middle egg below, toward the end of her laying cycle so a bit lighter than normal). I'm hoping for avocado hues from my OEs someday! 🤞
