Would a rabbit cage work as a brooder for my chicks?

Hi! I have 10 Serama eggs in the incubator right now and it is day 20. There are two eggs that are in the middle of hatching and I am trying to get their brooder set up. I know a lot of you might me thinking "Shouldn't you already have that thought through?" LOL but I was just wanting to make sure this would work. I used to have my two rabbits in the house in a rabbit cage. It is not metal or anything, but it is like the kind you would get at Petsmart or Petco. It has a plastic bottom with the wired caging that sits on top if you know what I mean. It has a door at the top of the cage, so I thought I could hook the heat lamp on a chain and lower it down into the cage. Would this kind of cage be heat safe? Would the chicks be okay in that? Thanks!

The rabbit cage would work for the first few weeks. If it gets too crowded as they get larger you may need to move them to something larger. I don't know how tall your cage is, but I worry that the light would be too low if hung on the inside. You can try it and see what kind of temps you are getting in the brooder. Good luck with your new chicks!

Okay thanks for the help!
