Would Anyone Support This?

Sad update.

I noticed my special brown egg didn't seem like it was moving after i took it out of the incubator but i kept it for a few days. Well sadly it died in the incubator. (Not bra-bator, my Hovabator i used to get the air pocket going)

So idk… I have one egg now. This is frustrating because they have not died because of the bra-bator, i've lost 3 eggs over normal egg problems, infertility, hairline cracks from what looked like a peck mark and sudden incubation death.

*SIGHS*

But… good news. I candled my green egg a few minutes ago and.. yes I can see very thick veining all over, a large air pocket, and a dark area where the embryo. My last egg is alive and it looks normal so far.

Still I'm rather frustrated the egg quality has been poor. Well This is still on for those who check it out. I only have one egg now but I'm sure its alive.

I'll try to post pictures again, this egg is dark shelled but I definitely saw what I said above. It look normal. I hope this egg gives me the test run I wanted out of this.

Maybe I'll do stuff with my own fertile eggs someday, but right now I don't have an adult rooster.

Sorry for the sad update, but I'm glad you've given it a shot. While I don't agree with the cruel tests on animals and such that are done, I don't see trying to develop a couple eggs as a horrible thing. If you manage to get this perfected, your method may save other eggs that are abandoned by a broody or cooling in an incubator due to an extended power outage.
I'm glad to see you've continued to update the thread.

Too bad you aren't here. I have several going to the auction in the morning.

Hope your little eggie hatches.

Well I found out what was wrong much by accident. My incubator was glitching. My egg made it to lockdown and i put it in the incubator like i said I would and it overheated again and killed it. I am still kind of upset seeing it went so far.

Turns out my ancient thermometer was a whopping 5 degrees off. I didn't think my hovabator 1588 would go to 105 at setting 4! I reset the incubator so that it now is at 100. I was so upset i didn't post on here. I knew things could go wrong but...

now i know exact what went wrong and sadly it had nothing to do with my lower body temperature. I put them in at a week (less for a few of them) to build an air pocket but it must have overheated then too and killed my embryos so by the time i noticed they weren't growing (since i couldn't see into most of my eggs) they looked like they didn't form/ died inside. Little did I know they got cooked! UGH!!!

SO recently I was at my friends house again gazing at her gorgeous chickens and eggs and decided to give it another round. I took 6 (not all for me) eggs and went home. I put 2 in my incubator which now is at temp and put the other four in the brabator again.

Now for some great news. I picked eggs I can see into fully and I put them in on Saturday 10th. AND GUESS WHAT? All FOUR of my eggs have embryos! I can see them CLEARLY in both my blue and brown eggs and I could already see then at day 2 and 3 which means they are right on track. I put in the incubator eggs a day later so they are a day behind my eggs and although only one egg seems to be forming (the other egg was really long… sadly beggars can't be choosers so I took it anyways. Eh. why not?)

So I'm doing this again because what went wrong had nothing to do with what I was doing. I've learned what not to do and i've decided the air sac will develop in week two and three and I will compare my eggs to the ones in the incubator so I can see if they are developing right.

Also some interesting news.

Yes Human body temperature is lower but I stuck my NEW thermometer into the "'bator" and was pleasantly surprised to find the extra bra-age in there actually boosts the temp to about 99-100 degrees. I don't know how but I appear to have the right temperature when i wear the extra bras i use to support, insulate, and protect the eggs. SO. Actually this really should work. I'm a bit more confident about it after seeing this. (I also tested the thermometer against the thermostat in my house and they read the same and it read right in the incubator once i reset it and messed with temps)

So you guys ready to go with me again? Sorry for the long no update thing.. i was too angry with myself and my incubator to say anything, since without it it had been going well.

I'll post the new candling pictures tonight. Today is day 5. (more of day 4 since i put them in late on saturday) But at least THIS time my hatch date is the weekend. I realized how stupid a college student was to put them in on a wednesday last time when i realized if i hatched them on me i'd be in class! Try explaining that to a teacher!

…actually i did have a chicken in class once but that's an entirely different story…. @_@ but people do love cute little oegb mix chicks who love love ~<3

Thanks people :D I' just sorry the first one didn't go anywhere. But now I can at least have candling stage pics! I'll post the first ones tonight.

Didn't expect to take a nap yesterday and wake up at 10 am today but thats what happened. Candled anyways and the eggs are doing well (bigger embryos than the day behind incubate eggs which means… RIGHT ON TRACK!) That proves I'm maintaining a high enough temp for them to develop normally which kind of mind boggles me a little.

I am sick… but not feverish (Probably why I slept so long LOLOL.) but anyways TONIGHT i will have pictures I meant to have them last night and right now is simply too light to take them in any room outside the bathroom… eh you know i may go take the pics in there.

I can see well into my green eggs but the yolks have darkened significantly and i can't see the embryos as clearly but i can see their light veining. But the Brown eggs are very clear still and the embryos in them are about ⅓ or more bigger than the hovabator ones. I'm glad i'm running this simultaneously.

HetaChick, I think it is a great idea to run the incubator and brabator together... hope you are feeling better soon. I'm looking forward to hearing how your babies progress this time around. Fingers crossed for you and your chicks.
