Would Dec 21 be a good birthday?

Dec 21st... just two years to the day before the Mayan calendar ends.

I have a good friend who will be 53 this coming Dec 21st and 55 when the Mayan calendar ends.

I think Dec. 21st would be a great birthday!! (one of my favorite days of the year...new season, yule, etc!! I agree with PineappleMama as well.

Both my family and DHs family have lots of birthdays around holidays...including a boatload of Dec b-days. For example, my b-day fall on 4th of July weekend (not a bad thing...I get a longer weekend for my bday) and DHs and niece both have T-giving bdays. My dad, two of my cousins, and DHs mom, DH nephew ALL have birthdays around Xmas/new years. Both of our families have the rule that b-days and holidays are celebrated separately. Even if it means that family from out of town is here for a holiday only (rare)...the cake/presents/birthday song is several hours separate from the holiday dinner, etc. If possible, they need to be a different day. Everyone has seemed happy with it.

I think a solstice birth would be a good thing. Not from the point of view of presents or parties but the whole symbolism, starting life as the light starts to return... that's powerful

I agree, a new begining at the New Begining.

A Winter Solstice baby - how awesome is that?

I wish you the happiest, healthiest baby - best wishes with all your new beginings!!!

BTW, I have a Thanksgiving day b-day and my oldest DD's birthday is the day after mine. I make sure she always gets a b-day cake, mine was always a pumpkin pie with a candle in the middle of it. *sigh* I have often told my DD that she was my b-day present to myself to make up for all the parties and cakes I didn't have growing up. Best thing I ever did for myself.

Any day is great day to have a baby!
Usually its non negotiable lol and the baby picks its own day to join the party.

Congrats by the way! Goodluck, hope everything goes smoothly.

They actually "postponed" the ending of the calendar due to a conversion error they found one of the early researchers had made. Mayan dates need to be converted into current time and there are equations to do this, but it turns out the equation they were using was off 50-100 years. So you can all breathe easy for now! Honestly, if there's that much debate about what day that Mayans were referring to in the calendar by using our calendar as a reference, I don't know how they will ever figure out when it ends!

Dec 21st seems like a fine birthday to me. My mom and brother both have December birthdays and my family was always firm about celebrating two separate days. Seemed to work for us! WOrse comes to worse, you could always celebrate the birthday earlier in the month, or hold off until January for the "friend" party. Growing up, we usually didn't have our parties the same day as our birthday.

sounds like a great day to have a baby... I would think before Christmas is a little better than after Christmas...

My birthday is the 27th of December...and recently said that I want to celebrate my birthday in March...when I was supposed to be born!! I do NOT like having my birthday sooooo close to Christmas....gets forgotten a LOT and oh, here is your Christmas and birthday gift on Christmas day!

My husbands birthday is 3 days after Christmas. It has never really bugged him. Just don't try to combine Christmas and Birthday, thats really no fun. To make it fair though we always make a big day of his actual birthday. Not sure how his mom handled it but he says it never bugged him. I know a few times they combined gifts but it was for big stuff he specifically asked for so I think they never tried to combine the 2 events.
