Would I need to put a filter in a kiddie pool for my ducks? The pool is a round 5' and 9" deep. I'm only planning on having two ducks for it. And what kind of filter if I did get one?

Thanks!!

I just dump and refill on a daily basis, but then, I have a private well, so it doesn't cost much.

I guess if you went the filter route, I'd say get one rated for a larger volume than what you have, because ducks are very, very dirty.

I really have no experience with this, but did used to keep koi and other ornamental fish. I am anxious to hear the answers you get.

I have a small pool like that for my ducks to but they do not stay in it all the time. They are mostly inside ducks.
I usually just fill the pool up everyday and let them play for an hour or so and then dump it out and do the same thing the next day.

Hope this helps.

I am planning on doing the same thing and playing it by ear. I just put my ducks and chicks outside yesterday so i'm going to leave them in the run for a couple days before I let them roam the yard and have access to the kiddie pool. A filter may not be a bad investment though. I just saw a really nice one on one of these posts...

A regular filter won't cut it for duck poop.
Search for Wifezilla's posts and look in her siggy - there is a link to her thread about a bio filter for her small pond. (at least I think that's who it is)

With algae blooms and just the amount of poop, I fill their big pool (the kiddie one with the slide) every 4-5 days. 5 days is pushing it, especially as it is getting hot and sunny.
I want to come up with something so I don't have to dump and refill, but was thinking the power to run the filter for it would probably be about the same as the extra water for the water bill.

I also have a small kiddie pool next to the garden that I keep full of water and use that to water the garden - so at least that water is being used anyway and this way, the ducks get to muck it up and fertilize it for free first

Thanks for all the help so far.

I'd prefer to not have to refill it everyday or every few days because I was planning on digging a hole for it and putting it in there. That way I don't have to worry about a ramp. I'm just scared my ducks would hurt their leg on it. Plus that would just be easier. So it would be kind of hard to dump it out/refill it everyday. Also I live in Michigan so I would not be fun doing that in 20 degree weather. I do realize I'll have to refresh the water at some point, the the fewer times the better.
