I would have to say that you better be careful letting them into the garden while your plants are smallish. I have cabbage, broccoli, collards, brussel sprouts and turnips growing in my fall garden. I thought the plants were big enough for my 3 young Indian Runners to come in to debug things and it was a big mistake. 2 of my 6 cabbage plants are destroyed and they were a good 12 inches high. They trampled them and crushed the center so I doubt I will have any cabbages off those 2 plants. The turnips are about 6 inches high and that's not mature enough to let the ducks run around all over them. They aren't destroyed but could have been if I hadn't caught them in time.
They do well in the garden when all your plants are very well established. They love it and have a great time foraging.
