Would it be a bad idea to add one duck to my chicken flock?

Speaking from my own personal experiences, *full grown* bantams and Silkies can and do drown in even the shallowest of kiddie pools.

OP has 6 bantam pullets and 5 silkies. Some of my bantam pullets are only 5-6" tall.

Seriously a Chicken won't drown in a kiddie pool..

Mine aren't chicks just small chickens.

A duck does not need pool access 24/7. You could have the pool in a separate area and just give the duck pool access from time to time. This would keep it away from the chickens and away from the chicken coop and keep things much drier and cleaner overall.

I have silkies and banta.s and I put rocks in every water that I put near them. They shouldn't drown but I am not taking any chances.

I hear ya, I use bricks and cinder blocks in my deeper pools.

The local humane societies here take in ducks, do they in your area?

Aww so sweet of you to want to keep the duck from being dumped. I hope you can find a good solution whether you keep it or just long enough till you find it a good home.Do you know if it’s a female or drake?

I was wondering if it was female or male too - and whereabouts in texas you are - cause if its female, I'd sneak it in somehow... half the time my mom doesn't know who's who anyhow. But I should be getting my own place again soon... I hope. I miss having my baby inside with me.
