Would It Be Wrong...?

View attachment 1631970 My wife purchased an old incubator at an antique store to refinish and make into an end table conversation piece. She sees a piece of decorative nostalgia. But you know what I see...

Another incubator!

She is off to visit the grandchild until March...which gives me just enough time to do a little refinishing work of my own, get eggs, and hatch before she returns. Would it be wrong?
No. Definitely. Not. Wrong. So so so right! You go do your thing and post here!

I could totally see this as PBS special. "A History of Hatching". I'd say restore it to working condition without modifications. Then on day 23 have company over for dinner. *peep* Enjoy some coffee in the living room. *peep peep* And bundt cake. *peep peep peep* Then let the ultimate conversation starter do its thing.

All jokes aside tho... Like, if you have a healthy/respectful relationship then asking shouldn't be a problem. I'd be pretty annoyed if someone did that to something of mine while I was gone without even asking first. Heck it's rude to even use a hairbrush without asking, even if you've borrowed it before... So if you love her and respect her boundaries, jut ask. You never know, you have chickens already and incubate eggs already. She might be excited about the idea of it being functional and fashionable.

I'd be super interested to see the restoration of the piece as a working incubator. I'd love to see eggs hatched in it. I'd hate to see something so lovely that's already a table anyhow become JUST a table when it could be a working incubator. I wanna see it working as it was made and I'm very interested in the process of restoring it... But if it's hers, it's hers.

Unless you plan on going out and buying her a second nearly identical antique incubator she can restore the way she likes if she's unhappy with your actions? Because otherwise you could be permanently altering something irreplaceable. For me that would be a no-go and you'd have earned every proverbial day on the couch you got from it. Which would be a lot.

Before I start the project...ummm...I mean the potential project here are a few more pictures. It was probably build by a small manufacturer for a homestead before the days of the Styrofoam DIY incubators.

It already has plenty of holes...I wouldn't be doing anything destructive. As a conversation piece, you know someone is going to ask, "Did you ever incubate any eggs in here?" Wouldn't it be great if my wife could reply "Yes. Yes we did."
