Would like feedback on possible coop idea

I found this as a possible banty coop. It is insulated and has electrical hookup. 6 ft by 4.5 feet with the porch 4.5 by 4.5 without the porch. The guy made it himself three years ago. I have only seen these pictures. He wants $400.00, which is wayyyyy to much. He did say make an offer.

What would you pay for it if it would make a good coop?

Do you all think it is too small?

It looks cute to me and I will most likely modify it and add a outdoor run to it.

Big enough for how many?

I would guess that the indoors part is about 14-15 square feet... BUT because it is L-shaped it may be hard to pack as many birds into it as you could if it were square, without running into problems about having the roost right over the water, or the chickens bumping into the feeder on their way in and out the door, etc.

$400 sounds like a LOT. But otoh it *is* cute looking

and if you can get it for a price you're happy with and it's big enough for your purposes I can see where it could look nice in the yard.

$400. is not a bad price for that if it doesn't have any rotten wood, but get the best deal you can. it's a nice looking building

That is a very nice looking building, but...........

First you would need to know the maximum number of bantams that are to be housed to determine if this house would be big enough. They would require a minimum of one square foot of floor space per bird, preferably more.

Then you should consider:
Where are the windows? The bantams will need light on their coop.
Where would I put the roost, feed, water & nests?
How would I get in there to install those devices?
How would I get in there to service the feeder, waterer & nests?
How would I clean out the floor litter?
Etc., etc., etc.

After considering all the variables that nice looking little building might not be an ideal solution for bantam housing.

It's an attractive coop; but with respect to the guy who made it, it doesn't look very user friendly for the chickens or the keeper.
Also it's sitting just a few inches off the floor on what looks like a ready made residence for pests ( Rats in G.B)

What is the height? What did the guy use it for? Would he modify it for you at that price?

Thanks for all your posts. I was thinking maybe three or four banties for it. Taking the roof off and doing it with clear paneling and have it open from the top. Food and water on the porch and modifying it somehow to enclose it. It is three feet tall. I wojuld buy it if I could get it for $100.00. Not willing to pay more though. $400.00 is way to much.

Good News Though.

I have contacted my brother and he has a red barn style dog house. He thinks it is 3 or 4 feet width or length. It is solid and insulated. I may just use that instead and clean it up a bit. It already has a small door in the back for ventilation, but I would use it for a nest box opening to get eggs. Change the roof and do what I said above so I can get into it. It is free too. It does need some work though. Need to find someone to help me modify it to my needs. Some of the wood needs replaced too.
