Would my silkie be disqualified in show?

I want to greet my daughter into 4h and thought about her showing our chickens. Although, most are from hatcheries and just pet quality. Our silkie roo is so beautiful, but I'm still trying figure out breed standards and what would qualify as a show bird etc.... I'm looking into hatching eggs this spring from local breeders, but wanted input on this guy, too. He's just so pretty! We are working on temperament right now as he's still young and hormonal, but he seems to be doing well with "training" so far.

Disqualifications specific to Silkies are "Bright red face, comb, and wattles, shanks not feathered down outer sides, feathers not truly silky except in primaries, secondaries, leg, toe, and main tail feathers, and vulture hocks." If your fellow is a bearded Silkie, he has a too-small beard; crest too.
The usual disqualifications apply too but they are too extensive to quote here. I suggest buying a Standard of Perfection if you really want to show, but for 4H I doubt it matters. Same with non-APA endorsed fairs.

That's good to know, thanks... he isn't supposed to be a bearded.. I guess ill be looking specifically for SOP eggs to hatch. Thanks for your time!!

White Silkies come in both bearded and non-bearded. Buying hatching eggs is not a good idea if you're looking for show birds. Even with perfect parents, you still might have to raise several birds to get one good specimen. Most breeders keep back 10% as 'worthy' birds but with long years of breeding you can get the percentage down. Buying started stock or adult birds is best if you are looking for very good show birds. Be aware that in that case they will likely be rather expensive.
