Would This Be A Good Coop?

Yeah, only problem is, my DH is lazy and wouldn't help me. My dad, who helped build my first coop back in Sept. is almost 70 and we spent so much money on wood because he kept cutting things wrong!

I think it would work fine if you were only going to put a few chickens in it. I personally think you would be better off building one. If you try and scrounge, so to speak, as much of the material that you can, you could build a fairly large coop cheaper than you could get that one from Wal-Mart. I have been collecting wood from pallets, furniture companies, etc... I have also checked through all of my friends and have finally located a builder that is going to give me some shingles that he has left over from houses that he builds. I have built a 11' X 8' chicken coop and it will cost me a little under $300 once all is said and done. That includes a large run. I wanted a larger coop, because I want more chickens!!!

I think it would be a very cute coop for a small flock. My only concern would be the cedar. I saw the post you were referring to with jimnjay. She is a very experience chicken owner. If she is going to feel safe sealing her, I would feel comfortable saying you could do that too!

Good luck!

Chickaroo! :

Good luck with the DH! Maybe you could go on strike!

I just keep reminding mine about how good I am to him! He always has clean clothes, I keep the home front running, cook his food, pay the bills, etc., etc... Good luck with it!

Well, I just got more chicks on Friday (6 of them) and I already have 3 others. So, I'm pretty sure my current coop wouldn't be big enough for all 9. I'm going to have to do something soon. And it HAS to be cheap.
