I have been trying to come up with an idea like this for pen breeding and the ability to minimize space taken up by the feeder/ waterer...
I hope you don't mind, but I'll be stealing this idea and modifying it slightly...
Question, how long is the bottom? Do you have a problem with scratching the feed out since it's so open and long?
The bottom is maybe 2ft(about a foot on each side of the riser)...on 4x4 blocks and my RIRs and BLRWs use it...i do not have a problem with them wasting food either! The smaller pvc is coped out so the food will dump well and i found you cannot glue a half cap on pvc so screws go through the cap and trough to the 4x4's...good luck...I love it and made one with 2" and 3" on 2x4's for my bantam sizes.

Love the home made feeders. I have a lot of home made feeders as well for my large flock.
