My understanding is that avocados are the only food to avoid. It's also not great to feed to much sugar or salt at once, of course.

what do you do about the hawks, we are in the country, and wanted to free range, but now we cant and dont have a covered area for them. is there something else i can do while we are working on a temp covered run?I've also read the tomato is poisonous. I've also heard they love it as a treat.
That's a great idea on the herb garden growing into the floor of the coop.
I'm thinking I will line the tractor with herbs and flowers that they can nibble on.
We have a fenced in back yard, but two dogs who would eat chickens.
I'm scared to free range outside of the fenced area due to the abundance of hawks in the area. I'm also in a city and not out in the country.

we are adding marigolds next weekend. I just found out about them myself and we are so excited to add to the chickens flower/herb garden. I am hoping it goes very wellI'm first time chicken owner, so I'm learning as I go. My girls are only 4 weeks old. I'm going to do some research on how to protect them. I've seen a few ideas here. One is a netting over the coop area.
I'm going to have the coop with a chicken tractor attached to it.
Still trying to figure all of this out.
I did see that chickens love marigolds and I know marigolds are good at keeping bugs away. I'll have those around it to have a double job.
I have not seen anything about avocados. good thing you said something cause we just did get some for the chickens...I woulda never thought to even look it up either. I just assumed they woulda been good. Suppose I will be checking everything out from now on,I've seen avocados are a big no no, but the skin of them is ok? Not sure why anyone would even risk it or bother with it. ?

i will have to look for that...thanks for the info!!There are some threads on here that say what's toxic and what's safe. Just do a search so you can have a better idea of what's ok. I never would have known if I hadn't seen it in another thread. This sites been a plethora of information.
