I'll have to get it set up - right now I have a three cell cage on that table, might have to find another place to put the tank. Hmm... maybe in my bedroom on the dresser

hubby would love that!!

Dining room maybe?

I might need to find a smaller tank!! Naw, I just need to find another big table. I love my big tank lots of room for babies.

Guess I'd better go read up on buttons and find out what toys to get them, what they like to eat for treats, etc...

I had to get a parakeet mirror with a bell to occupy the BR that Cindy brought over - she keeps trashing the cage pad - she gets bored really easy. Once I am done hatching all the eggs I'll have to bring in that play pen to put the chickens into, that'll be fun.

yippeee--- baby button quail. Oh and I have a Christmas present for ya - it's not much, but I had to get ya something.

eta - I used to keep the tank on a coffee table the boys are using right now - I might have to steal it back from them and find them something else to put their TV and game consoles on.

I could hold onto them until they are old enough to sex. These guys are pretty easy usually, since the males are different colored than the females. They eat game bird feed, but Day&Day only has it in 50# bags!! That's a bit much for a few button quail! I give mine chick start (18% protein) Mixed with flock raiser (20% protein) mixed with cat food (40%+ protein). You can also give them mealworms as treats, and parakeet seed, strictly as a treat. There is a whole list of things here--- http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewButtonquail/Button_Basics.html

Oh
and you didn't have to get me something for Christmas!!

Ok, finally got a moment....

That's cool on the hatch, Shelley

Hope more of them hatch, but 15 is better than 1, eh?

I've been baking all day, except for going to look at the house with Mom and Budd. The house is in BAD shape - would need to a lot of work. The barns are in good shape, and the acreage is nice, but that house is OLD.

Then on the way back they decided to drive down by the old cemetery by us. Now, I adore this old cemetery, it is one of the earliest in our area, has a lot of settlers graves, and I got So mad (had to bite my tongue, though) when Budd drove right into the cemetery (there is a small place to park) and drove right over the graves!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could have killed him!! I don't think I've ever been that angry with the man the entire time I've known him. How would he feel if someone drove over the grave of his first wife (died from cancer)???

Even if I weren't the family genealogist, disrespecting cemeteries is a BIG no-no with me. I think he knew it, even though I didn't say anything - when we got back he went to the boy's house and I haven't seen him all afternoon.

They decided to go back on Saturday. Hate to say it, but I'm not sorry they decided to go home early (they had decided before he ticked me off). There is only so much I can take of those dogs - seriously, those dogs are so horrid.

So, to go back on topic....

How much ya gonna charge me for some of them buttons, Shelley?

(or they can just be my Christmas present
gig.gif
hint hint )

I can grab the coffee table from the boys, and give them the table I have the shelves on now. That way I can put the buttons into the hatching room. They'd be happier in there, I think, less disruption.
I may put the cage on the table, though, and the buttons up on the library table - put them up higher to look at better. Plus they'd have some sunshine through the windows.

After mom goes home I should be able to haul out the tank and clean it up, and get everything set up. I can come over next week, if that's cool. (If I get too many boys and you get too many girls, we can just swap later on - no biggie.) You just pick the ones you want, and I'll pick from what's left.

I'm thinking I can fit probably (adults) 4 of them in the tank easily. It is a 4 foot long by 2 foot deep. If ya need more brooder room, they can brood here, too, in the tank. The babies aren't gonna take up that much space. But then, if they reach adult size in 6 weeks, then ya probably want to keep yours there
lau.gif
- wont be that long, really.

I saw this cute nest idea on some site, will have to fix something like that up for them here in the tank. Put some fake plants in there to hide under, etc...

Well, gonna go see if I can catch up on some BYC reading.

It seems Mom and Budd are goign into town to Wendy's to get a hamburger - nevermind I've been cooking all day and had dinner planned for eating in a couple of hours....

::::sigh:::::

Whichever way you want to do it is fine by me. I was told that they need to have no more than 2 females to one male, but if you aren't going to use them exclusivley for breeding, then it wouldn't really matter. Just if you have more males than females the males will fight and hurt each other and they will hurt the females as well.
But if you happened to get 2 boys and 2 girls, you could always divide the tank since it is so big!
I have 16 now by the way! And I don't think they're done, though they have slowed down quite a bit. But that is still way more than I need!! I was hoping for 2 or 3

But hey, I'm not complaining! I need to get some more fish tanks I think!
