Above two pictures were taken at the time on injury.

The above three pictures were taken with flash recently.

This is Vivi. She's my newest addition. She's been trying to make friends with my flock for about a week now. Last night, I put her on the roost and she was attacked this morning. When I am in the coop/run, nobody seems to try and touch or come near her, so I thought that it'd be fine to put her on the roost. This was also the third night I put her on the roost. The first night ever she was attacked and a few feathers were ripped out but she healed quickly. The second night, nothing happened and the third night this happened. As you can see, her skin was ripped and she does have a piece of skin that is just like a flap. The cut is very deep. My friend who raises horses and mother is a doctor talked to me over the phone as to what I should do. I tried to apply pressure to it to stop the bleeding but she didn't like that at all. Then I tried to rinse it a little bit with just plain water but she kept shaking her head which would then make the flap of skin move around and slap back onto the wound (ouch). They ended up driving over to my house and bringing me a medicine they use on their horses wounds called bactine. Its a first aid antiseptic and pain reliever. I'm going to let her stay inside the house for a few days until it begins to heal a little bit and then I am going to set up my 4 foot by 6 foot rabbit cage for her to stay in (no rabbits). It's right outside the chicken run so they will be able to see and hear her so that will also help with the introduction process. She is eating, drinking, pooping, and walking around normally. I feel so bad for her. What should I wash it out with? I was thinking peroxide mixed with water? Also should I wrap it up to keep it away from flies.

Look at the last picture. In the top right hand corner of the wound there is a white circular shape with a red dot in it. What is this? Is this infection?

Also in another thread they mentioned using a product called underwood. Anybody ever hear of it? Should I buy some? Here's that thread:

Stop the Bactine since it contains lidocaine a numbing medicine that can be toxic to chickens. Clean her with either the peroxide once, or betadine or hibiclens and water. Then apply a plain Neosporin type antibiotic ointment twice a day. Bring her inside to keep flies from causing maggot infestation. It will take several weeks for it to heal and feathers to regrow. The head will eventually form a leathery scab that will fall off. After she heals you may want to keep her separate with a fence or pen where she and the others can see each other and interact, and let her out to free range in the yard only while you are present until they seem safe together.

It could cause more bleeding. Chickens don't tend to feel a lot of pain after injuries like this, but she may have been hurt or in shock. I found one of my Polish hens in a ditch with a similar wound from a young cockerel, and she was in shock, but she recovered fully and has a pretty head of poofy feathers. The red dot you see is probably a small clotted area of blood.
