Good information here, thank you. I had an idiot dog attack and kill 3 hens this week and wounded a 4th. I almost euthanized it and then didn't... It has some deep wounds. I left it alone, it has been 3 days. It will never be a normal bird again. It hides with her head in the corner between the nest box and wall. It does eat and drink, but is so spooked by t he other hens it is now in a wire cage alone in the middle of the coop. Examined it last night and saw it was covered in lice and mites. I have never had to deal with this before. While treating for that, I found maggots stuffed into a deep wound. Repulsive. The mite/lice spray worked on those also but now I am worried that maybe I should have let them be. Feel better that they are gone. Now I am off to buy food grade DE to treat the whole flock for mites/lice. Ugh. Hopefully it will work on the maggots as well.
