WOW!! Extreme eggs from ONTHESPOT **UPDATED PICS**

How long can I leave the hatched chicks in the hatcher??
I now have 19 chicks! I hate that I have to leave them in the hatcher. One hatched over 24 hours ago (yesterday while I was at work) and I bet she's thirsty. But I dont' want to open it while other eggs are pipped...... so I wait.

Up to 3 days, but I usually take them out as soon as they're completely dry. Congratulations!!

DANG GIRL!!! Your numbers on your shipped eggs are looking better than some of my home hatches. (in the worst incubating conditions in history, but STILL) You are doing GREAT!!! I was holding my breath when NONE of the lavenders had pipped. I SO wanted you to have lavs. Good thing I sent an extra, maybe THAT was the one that hatched!!! LOL. Hopefully you will hatch at least a pair of those and be off and running! Did you see on ebay last week an auction for ten eggs went near $300 for those things???

for you!

The Ameraucana eggs are Splash roo with leakage over a white hen of unknown underlying genetics. All babies hatch out blue, with dark feet and beards, and will be split to white, with probably color leaking on the males at least. That is why I am trying to change that line to white. Well, that plus whites will cross great on the silkied ameraucanas... Neener neener, got one pipped right now... three more probably will hatch in the next twenty four hours... wish me lu-uuuuck!

Awesome re you have pips!
Thanks for the great eggs. They do seem to have very good fertility.
I'm hoping another LOP joins the party.

Both AMs are indeed blue. I had to do a quick open bater and grab babies cause the second am was on her back and had a little bit of blood on her bottom. The Velocirators were moving in on her so I opened and grabbed out that batch (6 BCMs and 1 AM) They are under lights so you know what that means.... you are going to get PICS!
2 BCMs are zipping right now. There is one more Bev one pipped.

Be back soon with the first pics from the top shelf crew.

OnTheSpot!!! a second LOP is pipping!
this is so cool
Where do you put the food coloring? I could only find this gel kind in tubes. Can't see it on them.

2/3 lavender orpington project eggs (1 out, 1 zipping)
6/12 BCM x Am splash roo
6/9 Presley BCM
2/3 Blue/White Ameraucanas
2/9 Bev Davis BCMs (1 is pipped - not sure on the rest)
2/5 Mottled Java (I think that will be all for them, I'll candle the 3 left later)
3/3 Olive Eggs
0/12 Wheaten Penedesencas (these hatch late for me)

23/56 so far

I usually color their butts because the fluff is lightest there. Between their legs kinda.
That is really good odds on shipped eggs! What kind of incubator do you have????????? Inquiring minds want to know!

Hi OnTheSpot

These eggs traveled the incubators. I was having trouble getting them stable as you recall so had a fit mid-incubation and ordered a digital cabinet brinsea incubator. It comes next week.

I started most of them out in the newish, gently used GQF cabinet. First I had trouble with temps (do to room temp I think), then the turner stopped working (it was just messing with me cause it works now. I think it may have been the extension cord not carrying enough power).
So they all got transfered to an OLD red GQF that I had reconditioned (new wafer, new cords, etc). I dragged the incubators all to the master bath where there is not a heater vent so the room temp stays more even. Put the eggs in Old Red. The LOPs and the BCMs were in the Brinsea Octogon 24 egg model til hatching time
Then I split the BCMs so I could tell them apart. Bev and LOP stayed in the Brinsea and Presley BCMs and everyone else went to the GQF hatcher. (yes, craigslist is a bad bad place where you can buy too many things).

So, these eggs have been in the GQF incubator, Old Red, Brinsea desktop model and the GQF hatcher.
I was grateful to have options and backups. I sure didn't want them to not make it.

hatch report:

2/3 LOPs
2/9 Bev BCMs (1 more is pipped)
8/12 red brick (1 more is pipped. I had to help the last 2 out, they were stuck, pipped too long and way at the back so I could not see they were having trouble - one is touch and go, the other is going to be fine)
2/5 Mottled Java
3/3 Olive
6/9 Presley BCM
2/3 Ameraucana
0/12 Wheaten Pendesencas (1 is finally pipping)

25/56 and there are 3 active pips
so 44% right now. I hope to go over 50%. 50% is what I expect from shipped eggs.
