I have 15 chicks in my Chick Wagon (brooder on wheels, looks like a huge little red wagon made of wood). These are my first ever incubated clutch, from my hens...
I have been giving them Dumor starter/grower.
I have them walking and bedding on the grrrn, moisture barrier pads for elderly people, to protect their bed. I have some left from when my momma was in Hospice.
So, I wanted to change it up a little and I put these solid white, "bath mats" in the chick wagon instead of the green pads. I have a TON of the bath mats, which look like regular size hand towels but they are super thick and absorbent. They did okay, too much poop for my liking on cloth though...
Anyway, I had a bunch of them already dirty and I just rinsed the poop o es off with the hose pipe, outside.
I put them all in my washer together and added my bleach and Gain...
I just took them out of the dryer and there is what looks like SAWDUST all packed in my lint filter, and all over the other bath mats too.
Same color as the starter grower.
I know it didn't come off of the other mats because I used some to clean all the windows, some to wipe the dust/pollen off of my wood inside the house, some in my car.. I didn't use any of them on anything that would produce a sawdust like substance. The only other thing was the starter grower on the mats from the chick wagon...
Could what I am seeing be an ingredient in the chick feed & not sawdust?
I'm almost convinced it's sawdust..
Someone has to have experienced this before..
I hope.
I shook some out of one of the mats onto the top of my dryer..

Just after I read your reply, I grabbed my magnifying glass and looked again with a flashlight shining on it.
It does look like there could be some hull shavings.. so, wheat middling sounds rational to me!!! LoL * embarrassing...
I should have grabbed the magnifying glass first, huh....

Do you know what it is? It's probably online also. Can look through and see what else that may be for curiosity's sake. :)
It's Dumor starter/grower, from TSC. I did look online at the listed ingredients. Of course, I didn't see sawdust on the list, so embarrassing.
The first online listed ingredient is wheat middlings.

I feel better about it now. I just had a panicked reaction because I had never washed anything that had the chick feed on it, and my first thought was my BYC peeps would know. I feel silly now because my first thought was sawdust. .. but it looks just like sawdust to me..

It does look like saw dust, I would have thought the same thing.
