Wow! Just Wow! So Amazing!

When my chick's were little and I first moved them outside, I was worried about outdoor house cats at night. (That is my only real predator concern. I am lucky too!) You might be wise to look at bringing them in at night if you can't lock them up. I guess you could put the cage they were in inside outside and lock them in after dark. No cats bother my grown chickens, but I have seen bird feathers that indicated a dove may have been caught be a cat. My mother, who has been in this area longer than I says anything smaller than a pigeon needs to watch out for cats. That said, my mothers house doesn't have any fences or coups and hens have raised little ones in her yard. (The were volunteer arrival hens, not planned ones.)

Chicks peep incessantly when they are distressed. I would be concerned about moving them so much, back and forth, and if you must move them I'd move them as one animal. I still think that mom would be much happier outside with some kind of shelter that you could lock up at night for her and babies protection. If you gathered her up in the evening and put her in there for a couple of nights, she would soon start putting herself to bed. And I'd try to leave them alone as much as possible just give her as much feed and water as she and they can eat and drink.

Congrats on the new chicks!! Have fun!

You must have secure shelter for them outside. Something with a door on it that you can lock up at night to protect them from predators. Where do you live?? If I were you I would go up to the very top of this page..beside the BYC Home...click on the Learning Center...Start there. If you intend to keep these chickens then make them a home where they will be safe, ok?
