Wow! Look at this egg....

When you have the etching done the way you want you melt the wax off the egg over a candle. And then you have the dark shell left. I have some done that are like that but they are packed away and ready for a show next month.

you are sooo cool!!!
i wanna try it now!!

how do you get the layer effect??? repeat the prosses??? or not leave the chemical on as long?

Ok to do the layered look you mark your egg with a pencil, put the design on that you want, then mark your first part of the design with the wax using a kiska. Then take your cleaner and put it on the egg till the desired shade you want. Rinse the egg and clean it with baking soda and water to stop the action of the acid. Then you will put more wax over what you etched with the acid, for your next part of your design, now rememeber if you use The Works, it does not take that long to work and you can go right through a chicken egg really fast, you also need to wear plastic gloves and you should wear a mask of some sort , you don't want to breath in the fumes you are goign to get. After you applied your next layer of wax, you would go again with the acid. Then more wax and again the acid and probably this one would be where the acid would go through the egg. Rinse off any acid, then holding the egg over a candle flame, or even a hair dryer, you are going to start melting the wax off the egg, and wiping with a paper towel to get it off the egg, your design should start to show up as you remove all the wax. Don't take any of the wax off the egg till the very end. Hope this makes sense. Another way to do this which is pretty is to take some lace, just white cotton lace, put the lace in vinegar, then wring it out. Wrap the egg in the lace, don't overlap it, just put it on the egg tightly. Then wrap the whole egg with the lace on it in saran wrap, and let it sit for a few hours. Vinegar takes a longer time to etch, but it's an acid and will do the etching, don't use the works on this, or it will eat right through the egg. After a few hours, lift up an edge to the lace and see how the pattern is on the egg, if not the way you want it then leave the lace on for more time. You can do this up to over night and it won't or shouldn't eat through the egg. But keep checking to make sure.
