(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens. My 4 3/4 year old grandson, (he wanted to make sure I added the 3/4), wanted some chickens and they can't have them in their leased house so Grandma stepped in and we have a project of love.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have three 12 week olds.

(3) What breeds do you have?
- one buff orpington, one barred rock and EE.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I live in Portland and went to the Urban Farm Store for the chickens and they suggested your site.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have shown afghan hounds for many years. My current one is named Scandals and she loves the chickens. ( Not so sure they love her, though.

) I live in a little yellow cottage and love to garden in my 'english style cottage garden'. I am a gourmet cook and dabble in just about anything that strikes my fancy. My favorite hobby is my two Grandkids, Avery and Adeline....we have a blast learning and playing together.

The chickens are currently residing in my bathtub...

, while I finish retrofitting a potting shed into their new coop. I am fascinated by their different personalities. Every morning I go and sit on the side of the tub and the EE jumps up on my lap. She did this for a few days and the other two watched. Then the orpington started to join her. Just yesterday the barred rock decided she was being left out but can't bring herself to jump up...so she leans against the side and stares up at me until I pick her up. I am fascinated by their different personalities. They all love to ride around on my grandsons head, shoulders or even cling to his shirt front. Who knew chickens could be such good pets?!?! Considering I am a recent transplant from the Los Angeles area, I can't believe I am saying this, but I am even going to order them some diapers when they get bigger so the kids can play with them in the house.

I LOVE CHICKENS!

Isn't it amazing how much fun we have because of our grandkids? My barred rock rather looks like a feathered terradactyl...that LOOK! She'll grow up to be a beauty I am sure, but right now she's a real hoot.

The other day he came over we had hatched out some chicks and he hadnt seen them yet. I showed him the new chicks and he wanted to see the eggs. I told him they were the eggs. He said hey they busted out!
