I have two red sex-links that have just started laying in the past few weeks. I went out awhile ago to check the nesting boxes and couldn't believe what I found. A 3 inch long egg!! I suppose this would be called an X-Large. Is this common from a young pullet just starting to lay? All their other eggs have been a lot smaller.

It might be possible though one of my barred rocks or orpington have started laying too! Today feels like Christmas!

Sexlinks are known to be excellent layers and tend to lay larger eggs. Sounds to me like your girls are growing up! Expect the eggs to get bigger as time goes on. Awesome!

i have a golden comet and her first egg was about that size. Her egg now only fit into a jumbo egg carton.
