My Aruancana just laid an egg wrapped in a moist substance, sort of like thin wet paper. When I picked up the egg, the substance slipped off. She looks O.K., and she has an appetite. What was that stuff. Thanks, Barbara
Probably the beginning of a new coating. think of egg creation as a conveyor belt, sometimes the line gets jamed and stays too long in one place. Sometimes the line moves to fast and you end up with an egg with no shell. This usually happens in pullets but can happen in hens. Bottom line I wouldn't worry, unless this occurs over several days.
