I want to share the comments that @BlueTheBrahma posted in the Marans thread about these latest 2 boys. He's been such a help with me selecting thru all my birds and giving me upfront and honest answers to all my many questions I've had. Without everyone's help I couldn't have gotten here where I stand with hatchery stock.

Got another 1st pullet egg from Kings coop on the 7th I forgot to post. Waiting on one more little girl yet.

Yes. Tons of different colors and sizes. If you have a Harbor Freight near you they're super cheap, Dollar stores have them also but limited colors.

Our 1st Marans pullet egg in quite awhile today. I didn't catch who layed it, but I believe it's one of Ravens. I think it was white/blue as she's been testing the nest boxes the last few days. Gotta up my stalker game...

To expand on that a bit. I use a purple band (right leg) on Joannie my OG F0. Her progeny F1 I'll band Purple/other color on left leg. F2 grandbabies I go back to right leg with purple/other but try to switch 2nd color so that they're not the same as F2s. Haven't gone further yet to get confused but I've only lost one main band on one of the boys since starting just recently in fact but there's 4 white (Raven) and 2 yellow (momma) so process of elimination worked.

That was easy to figure out just by noticing a single odd band and process of elimination (color head count)

If anyone has suggestions or a different easier way I'm open to ideas. But this has worked so far. Of course, I keep records of all my birds also so it's a quick look to see who's who also.
