Wrath's Marans

Dbl white band from Ravens 3 was the last to start laying and she's consistently laying the darkest. Back row far left is what she's been laying since her first week but then she layed that far right egg. I'm guessing a weird glitch to not get coated but it also had egg yolk covering it. No busted eggs in nest box, so I'm assuming just a glitch in her paint line.

Looking good to me! I love the speckles 😄 I think speckles are the egg equivalent of chickens with cheeks for me, it just makes them that much more eye-catching 😃

White/blue has thrown me 2 now of those big speckles, I love getting them.
There not desired for SOP standard, but worst case scenario I'll keep her for egg basket eggs if I can't use her for breeding.

I'll be photo dumping alot of pullet pics soon. 🙂

Feel free to "dump" a few on over my direction :woot they would look great in my egg basket! Then cross her to an Ameraucana... oooh! The possibilities :wee

Whoohoo, photos!

I sometimes get the big splotchy speckles kinda like quail eggs. From what I’ve read, people like the olive and green eggs with speckles.
I like the marans eggs that are dark and glossy. I have one marans that lays a egg with a dull finish, I’m guessing it’s from the bloom.

Those are gorgeous. The glossy eggs are SOP but I favor the dull sheen myself.

I see myself keeping most of these pullets as they're all giving me neat colors with a couple purple and pink blooms occasionally.
I'm still waiting on 3 F2s yet to see their colors. They've been investigating the nest boxes the last few days.

That’s a good question. I’m out of town right now and the plan is to hatch all of my Marans eggs when I get back in town. They are covered by my whiting true blue rooster and I’d like to get some olive egger f1s. That would be the first step. Then second would be to breed an f1 olive rooster back to the marans hens for some backcrossed dark olives. Then third is probably breeding the backcross generation together to make f2s. And then fourth would be f3 to f3.
The long term goal would be to have true breeding olive eggers, but I think it will take a couple years to get that. The f3s would have be tested for 2 blue egg genes.

I'm collecting now for my first hatch here soon
F1 and F2 Olives and Kong x Solo eggs. I may add some BCM eggs in if I need filler eggs. 🙂

I may have noted that wrong.
Would a BCM x EE be considered an F0 or F1 OE?

This makes more sense.

If so, then I'm looking to hatch more F0 and F1s.
