Wrath's Marans

Of course they do...

I looked up what kind of statement it WAS....it's called an 'idiom'. 👍

Ok that makes sense. Sometimes when people are on the other side of the pond they don’t understand local idioms. But I was like he’s in Lower Michigan, he’s not even the other side of Lake Michigan.

It's double down day..

Chloe (Yellow/orange) is my broody sitting on Solo eggs on the right. Lil Black on left.

These 2 are Ravens pullets. White/White with the wonky comb, and White/Red.

Small update.

Officially moved Chloe with Solo's eggs down to a brooder. If I didn't mention it, I have 2 more broodys now in the Marans coop (4 total now). Will probably set eggs under them tomorrow.
Candled the OE eggs under the Australorp and all look like they're developing, though I'm still worrying they may be getting too cold.

Snapped a few pics today. Just randomness.
Chloe with Solo's eggs. @Tstraub that price works for me. 🤣

Candled a few eggs in the 360 and found most are developing at day 8. The grandbabies are here so I didn't get a chance to snap pics, but want to give a huge shout out to @Island Coppers for the diy candler how-to. Wow is that thing bright.

I've gotten a few more calls for day olds, so I'm looking to set more BCM and OE eggs in the new Brinsea by Thursday for an Easter weekend hatch.
I'm thinking in the 26-30 egg range so I can move them to the 360 for lockdown. If I don't get any more orders for day olds I will separate into hatching bags for leg banding.

My Blue Copper Marans are looking healthy. Interesting how different they look. One is so much darker with only small feathers on her feet. They're hatchery quality so I imagine not SOP.

I can't give you any advise on proper coloring for SOP..
I think they're beautiful and way too young to see qualities or faults. They'll change so much and I try not to make any selections in my pullets until after I want to see their first 20-30 egg color. This give us the average color they will lay.
What I do see for positives at this time, is you've got 2 gorgeous completely different gals. One is darker and the other is lighter. The lighter one has the more correct leg feathering but this points to you have 2 separate options in your breeding programs not only for feather shades but leg feathering also.
For instance, a darker blue male with light leg feathering x lighter female. Or lighter male with heavy leg feather x darker female.
Both have their qualities in your future Marans project. Wait for those eggs.... ♥️

Oh I'm not getting rid of either. I don't have plan for breeding at any point yet because I have such a young mixed flock. In the future, though... maybe. It depends on the market and my amount of free time. Right now my flock is just for my enjoyment and a colorful egg basket.
