Things to say- first how adorable!!! I truly love that!!! And wowzer King is a big boy!! I’m used my bitty bantam, king is like a giant! He really does look like a proud papa. Do the chicks have names yet? And who is that beautiful lady in your lap?? Jeez dude details!! Also is that a heat lamp in the chick pen, or just a light? Do chicks need a heat lamp even if they have mama with them?

Lol thanks... King's a pretty big boy. He's slightly taller in the legs than Kong, but Kong is wider.
No names yet...and that's our Shadow, she's a friendly one.

Nope, its just an LED light. Wasn't much light in the coop with the rain we were getting, so I added the light....and no heat needed with a broody, Mama provides all the heat and I've read it's over 100 degrees under her belly.

I’ve never hatched chicks with mama, so I had no idea. I don’t know exactly how warm mamas belly’s gets, but I DO know when one of my girls sits on my lap, it gets hot. I’m like alright that’s enough get off me, you’re making me sweat.
Shadow is a beauty! I’m starting to like the speckled chickens. Did you say barred rocks? Are they all friendly like that, or is she just a cuddle bug? All your chickens are gorgeous.

Yes, she's a Barred Rock (BR). That's barring your seeing as her pattern. Highly recommend them, I have 3, they are an awesome, must have, friendly heritage breed. And hens produce Midnight Majesty Marans (a sex link) when mated to a BCM roo.
That's what some of the chicks are under Roady.

Midnight Majesty Marans or Mystic Marans depending on the hatchery name are a hybrid created by BCM roo x BR hen.

Then hen passes her son's the barring and will show at hatch by a white head spot and will feather out barred like her.
The hens daughters will feather out black like a Black Copper Marans and lay dark eggs sometimes with speckles.

The only issue is subsequent breeding from them does not breed true, so this is the reason I hatched these separately from the Marans.
