Wrath's Marans

Update for today...

I'm seeing activity happening in the 360. Counted 7 that I could see trying to escape so far.

Nothing so far from the OEs under the BA broody. They were set the same day.
I set 6 of Ravens eggs under Copper on Thursday. Today 2 got broke, but Raven had layed yesterday and today so I shoved those 2 under so back to 6. I won't put anymore under her now as this is pushing it.
I was planning to let her be as she's a vicious broody but now I'm rethinking it and may move her, as busted eggs are a mess.

#1 is out.

6 so far this morning...
This is my first run with the Govees and not sure why the temp has dropped, unless they're kicking it around in there causing that. Anyone noticed this?
Humidity ran quite steady low to mid 20s all 18 and this is the spike this morning... Complete dry hatch with no water.

Congrats on the new chicks. I have noticed the temperature on my govee drops at hatch. I’m not sure if it’s because they move it around, the cooling effects of evaporation as all the chicks dry off, or a combination of the two. I’ve never really worried about it their next stop is a 95 degree brooder so I figure it’s still at a safe temperature.

Usually we just oogle the new babies and don't pay attention, but with this being a dry hatch and 1st run with the Govees I've been monitoring. I was real curious where the humidity would spike at thru out hatch. Temp was fairly consistent with minor fluctuations here and there off course so I figured this had to be hatch related, humidity spike or the pod bouncing around.
That's good info thanks.
It coming back up a bit and humidity has dropped.

So... can someone explain dry hatching to me? What's the difference from regular incubation? I've always just bought chicks so I'm very ignorant of the whole hatching experience but curious.
Dry hatching has it's advantage in higher humidity climates. It's running no water usually 20- 30% the first 18, and humidity will spike at hatch.
Adding water to keep your humidity between 20-30%, 40-50% at lockdown is considered a dry hatch also. This is what my previous go to was last year for the Marans eggs.
This hatch I wanted to try no water straight thru.

It would be interesting to see the difference in success rate. Do you use an app or spreadsheet to track hatch rates with different methods?
