Wrath's Marans

I figure it’s better to start with dark eggs and ok birds than great birds with light eggs. The rooster he has over these hens is from a super dark egg. So hopefully these birds will lay darker eggs than the ones I’m setting.

Feel free to ask me and the other guys here if you want help picking the best cockerels etc. Dark eggs grab people’s attention, so I understand your logic with prioritising egg colour.

You could always share pictures on the international Black Copper Marans Thread.

I’ll definitely ask lots of questions. I’ll post later tonight with some of my questions

I bought my Marans eggs off a local guy I found on Craigslist for $1 an egg. I spent 2 years trying to breed them and never got a chick to hatch from the Marans hens. The rooster did sire several barn yard mix and olive egger chicks but never a full. Marans. Eventually I gave up and culled the hens to make room for more productive hens.

I started an American Breese flock because I found a source on them but haven’t gotten around to replacing the Marans yet. If all goes to plan I’ll get some Marans from @wrathsfarm this spring. I live close enough to him that I could drive there but far enough away that I haven’t planned the trip yet. I wish I would’ve paid for better quality stock the first time. I’m sure it would have saved money over feed hens that turned out to be duds. I guess I learned a valuable lesson.
