Wrath's Marans

The 360 low temp alarm went off this morning...temp has dropped and won't go back up. The wife saved the day and we got the eggs moved into the other 2 bators.
In the process we hear peeps a going.
That's why I finally ditched mine, wild temp swings for no reason

It's been a rough couple weeks here filled with a lot of time consumed in getting the runs weather proofed for this cold snap we got and building another bachelor coop for the boys.
Saturday December 6th started out with heart break as we lost our buddy of nearly 5 years... King. Its still not close to being back to normal here not seeing him everyday or hearing is mighty crow. With that same day also, a little ray of sunshine peaked out when W/W's eggs she was brooding decided to hatch a day early with 2 BCMs of Coppers and a Blue BCOE from Christy.

The one is much bigger compared to the other 2. I need to get some experienced quality info on them as all I really know is the Mulberry factor. They were much smaller as day olds compared to BCMs, if I remember correctly at a week old they were smaller than the day old BCMs that hatched that week.

Edited to add...17 weeks tomorrow. So, they are smaller still than our BCMs at that age.

I always thought those Ayam Cemani would be a fun breed. The zombie crosses are cool. I don’t have enough room for another project but they are neat to look at.
Back before I got Silvers I wanted Svart Honas, the cold hardy version. But opted to get the Silvers to stay with just one SOP. I've always liked the fibros and even checked into fibro EEs thru Meyers, but they were 23.00 per chick and that's just crazy. So when I found these for the broody that had the failed hatch I started rethinking just making my own neat mixes.

I haven’t really had the opportunity to breed to a standard yet. I’ve had a lot of fun with mixing for egg color on my main flock. I plan to really pay attention to standard with the Bresse but realistically I won’t see any real results this year I only have 3 female and 2 male so I’m just breeding the birds I have. I plan to hatch a bunch and select only a few to move forward with. Breeding to standard feels like a lot more work but I’m looking forward to the challenge.
