Writing goals

Pics
Hi people! I'm just going to follow along with the format that everyone else is using.

So. I'm writing a sort of sci-fi/fantasy crossover-ISH (I would like to say it's Star Wars fanfic but it's like I took Star Wars and made it my own, lol - some of the canon characters are still there but I made up my own planets, characters, etc.) My problem is working on ONE thing and sticking to it. Like, I have three book ideas for the same series floating around in my head, and they're all demanding my attention. Right now, for my SERIOUS part that I truly do want to work on, I've finished up to Chapter 3... sort of. I say "sort of" because I want to change the POV so I have to start from C1, AGAIN, for the bajillionth time.:barnie

So, I guess I've got to set my goals tiny. I want to finish AT LEAST C1 and C2 by the end of the year. That's approximately - what, 12 000 words (plus or minus).

Something I wanted to share here.
To anyone who may be struggling with a bit of inspiration or such, there's a prompt thread here that a few of us hang out on and bump occasionally. Lacy posted a piece here that came from there! We aim for weekly but it depends on everyone's writing progress and whether anyone has a new prompt!

Had fun reading through this. I started writing as part of my midlife crisis (along with getting chickens). I have one finished novelette, a mostly finished novella, and a partial novel I barfed out during Nanowrimo last year (only made it to 37K).

My biggest struggles have been learning when to let something go versus when to push through and finish. It's very, very hard to force yourself to write something you've completely lost interest in. I'm a pantser and tend to write myself into a corner. But hey, now I know why so many movies have horrible endings. Not so easy to stick the landing on a story.

December goals? Probably to polish up that novella. It's a fun concept (a cat detective that solves a supernatural crime) and probably doesn't need more than another 5K or so words.

Looking forward to following along with everyone else!
