Like do you mean just... changing it up and going to a different part of the story?

Like do you mean just... changing it up and going to a different part of the story?

I mean change the weather in the scene you are stuck in.

For example
I got really really stuck during the first chapter or so of my current draft.

So I made it rain instead.
Was I going to have it be clear so that I could get a sunset scene in? Yeah. But it didn’t work out.

With the new weather type I was able to paint more imagery because rain goes with clouds, angry sky, pounding on the roof, thunder if you want, etc.

And it paired well with the emotional tension between the main character and main supporting character. An emotional storm that I leaned into more after writing the physical storm because it switched on all the right things in my brain to make that sort of thing happen.

Usually whenever I get stuck, it's because I either (a) have too many ideas as to what happens next, or (b) don't have a single clue as to what happens next.

These are both usually fixed (in my case, at least, everyone writes differently) by sitting back and putting together what the next logical thing should be.
You've laid all the groundwork you need to continue in your previous writing. Draw from there. What strings have you left that need to be tied? What unsaid conversations or thoughts or emotions need to be addressed? What detail relating to your plot have you snuck in there that can now be fleshed out further?

I like to think of writing like those logic puzzles, the ones that give you a brief blurb of information that you have to solve the rest from. Even if it doesn't look like much, all of the info you need is right in front of you.

I'm getting a bit better at sitting down to write, think I've got about 6000 words in a short story I'm working on right now. I'm almost done.
