Writing goals

I mean, you have to give the information sometime, right? I have my info-dump sections, for sure. I try to disguise them the best I can to look natural, but they are there!
I’ve considered just using footnotes like some authors I’ve seen for my random useless yet relevant information
I feel like that would be fun

To be fair, I’ve read a lot of books where the main character is never specifically described. Most of the time you can probably leave it up to the reader, unless the character’s physical appearance is particularly important.
My predicament is that my MMC looks a very specific way.
And it’s very vivid in my mind but on paper he sounds like a vague concept.
And then there’s a secondary MCC that’s a different species so I just described him right off the bat and then never really did it for any of the same species other than mentioning a color because the colors have to do with where they originate.

I was going to say the same thing! I don't always mind filling in the blanks myself.

I love this idea.

I love this idea.
I think it was Andrew Peterson’s The Wingfeather Saga that introduced me to the idea that footnotes in fictional literature as a method of world building was an option

Like this is a piece from my WIP that could easily be footnoted and it wouldn’t be sitting there interrupting the flow of the scene

Oh no! I'm sorry if you felt targeted by anything I said! 🥺
Writing should be fun, and you can suck the joy out of it by getting too technical and worrying about too many "rules" and whatnot
You're fine :p I love seeing the different kinds of writers on this thread, and I DO learn stuff when I sit back and listen.
I have no plan or intentions to publish so the only standard I write to is my own :D
Tbh, I wasn't fully planning to write the story I am right now, a main motivator was Lacy telling me there probably is people who would read it. But that's not my main focus, the people who DO get to read it always treat it like it's amazing, even when it's not. Cause as I was rewriting what I had i wanted to go hide somewhere at the fact people got to read it 😭

Well I actually have all his info I just never put it in the book 😭
i don't put a lot of thought into what they look like because I hardly write their appearances... Like I doubt you would tell what Thing looks like if you didn't already know. Stephen's appearance is near irrelevant to me 😭

Every single plot idea starts with one character that I made first and every character starts with one random design element that I wanted to draw/write about so how my characters look might be considered the foundation for all my writing

And that shows for you, with how epic your character designs are 😭

You could name any one of my characters and I could probably pin point the exact specific piece of themselves that the rest of themselves is based on 😭

I see what you mean. Footnoting is a really smart workaround! Hmmm... now I'm getting ideas. 🤔

Same! My husband hypes up anything I write, so it was a shock when I gave a draft to someone else and they were like, "I don't get it." 😭 So now I mostly just write with him as my audience. You can't please everybody.

Except Palila
She doesn’t have her piece anymore which was a mask with glowing design on it which is actually canonically possible I just never managed to add it to her redesign
