Hi... I've never really posted here but have been lurking for years and enjoy the wealth of information. I was wondering what the general opinion was on a situation. I placed an order with my local feed store for 12 meat birds ( dixie rainbows) and 6 gold laced wyandotte pullets. My husband went to pick them up since they arrived two days later than promised and I was working. I received only 10 rainbows(and 3 died in 72 hours, an outrageous mortality rate for me), and 6 "gold laced wyandottes".I have never had GLW before, but wanted to try something new. I immediately suspected one of the pullets to be off, as she was especially chubby and has green legs ( and is actually, I suspect now, a cockerel to boot!). The others at 7 weeks are feathering out with reddish brown edged in black with white dots. I think they may be speckled sussex.
I called the feed store to explain the problem and they said there was nothing they could do, since they don't guarantee that chicks will live. I explained that the problem is not that they died, but they gave me the wrong birds! Should I just blow it off and take my business elsewhere, or push the issue? It kind of upsets me, I had my heart set on the pretty wyandottes.
