So I accidentally bought the wrong heat lamp bulb (got bright white not the red by mistake) and have my new chicks. Rural king is all out and I ordered one but it will be a few days. If I keep the lamp off during the day (it gets in the 90s in the room I have them in because of the weather and I am not letting air in it) with shades down and lights off to will they be alright with the white light during the night?? If not any suggestions until my red bulb comes in

You could use a regular light bulb (40 - 60watt) just make sure the chicks have enough room to move away from the light/heat if they get too warm. Put their food/water away from the light. Another idea is MHP (heating pad) there's a thread but Blooie about it. Since reading & trying, I don't use a light bulb for heat anymore.

You don't need supplemental heat if it's 90F already. As suggested above a low heat source like incandescant bulb suggested above would work for nights.

I use a white light and don't see why you think you want only red. The white heat lamps I see and use are 125W. If you use that make sure it's elevated enough not to creat too much heat.

Too hot is far worse than too cold on chicks. They will huddle together if cold to generate heat if too hot in brooder they've no escape and will perish. Watch them to monitor heat. Panting is too hot and chirping loud is too cold.

Not sure how many you have, our last batch (now 8 weeks) walked away from heat at day 3. They went outside with no heat at day 6. Day time temps in the 80’s and over night in the 60’s they have done quite well!

I covered my heating pad in plastic wrap then a pillow case put it on top of a cooling rack and my girls sat on it , or under it , just a simple “heating cave” for when it’s too hot
