Wrong kind of sand?

yes I believe they do, right next to the cement & quickcrete... its basically the same stuff you mix with concrete to make solid concrete forms for foundations and patios.

it's not as cheap as getting it by the truckload, but you can ask if they have a way to get larger quantities

that said, natural sand... beach sand as experienced by many coastal folks works just great. so.. if your yard is already sand filled, no need to add anything store bought without giving your natural resource a try first

Construction sand. Thanks, I knew there was a difference. I'm off to Lowe's to get a bag!

I buy "all purpose sand" from Lowe's. You can go to their website and look up your local store to see if they carry it.

The sand I bought from my local Home Depot wasn't the right kind ...it was much finer than the Lowe's product. Of course, different stores will carry different brands, so you pretty much have to check it out in the store.

It's called construction sand or builders sand. You can buy a 1/2 yard or more if you want. You buy it where they sale stone, blocks, and concrete. You find them listed in Phone Book. If you have a pickup that will save you money on delivery. If you don't they usually charge more for delivery then for the sand cost. The sand is a lot cheaper there then at a Home and Garden store. An you wouldn't have to lug 50 lb bags around. The play sand is less absorbent so it's not really recommended for use in the run.

Just my thoughts to you. Hope it helps.

One bag of sand won't go very far. It covers about 2.5 cubic feet. That means a 50 lb bag will cover about 2'x2'x2".

Call the local premix concrete place and the local nursery and see who can delivery you a truck load of construction (or typical) sand. I've used 8 of my original 10 yards already (which is 270 sq ft. or about 54 50lbs bags) and I only have four of my five (or seven) runs done.

Play sand is fine to use, like they said, it justs costs more. Lucky me, I have 20 acres of sandy soil. If I drain my duck pond IN THE RUN, the water is gone in less than 2 minutes, its like a sponge.
