hey guys. i only have a small backyard flock. 3 ducks and a drake (i herd that is a good ratio, the drake is a little smaller than the ducks) i also have 2 silkie hens, a japanese bantam, and a silkie roo. so that is only a 3:1.... he is really going at it lately where the girls are so SCARED. cowering in the corner and he is relentless. i understand he is a boy and thats what he has to do but i think im being un reasonable when i have only 3 hens for him to sire.... he is turning on the ducks now also... especially my injured drake because he can catch him... if i found the rooster a home do you think that it will be the best thing for everyone??? i love him to death but i don't think right now is the right time for a roo.

If you do not want to hatch any eggs, you can find him a home. If you do want to hatch some, you'll need to keep him. You could then house him seperately to give the gals a break.

i can keep the roo in his own pen separate everyone else? i don't know... i think i would feel horrible!

As much as I love roosters, and I certainly understand your affection for yours, that ratio of hens to rooster is waaay off. Some roosters are okay and happy with a small harem. How old is your roo? He MAY settle down after a while (once he's past the initial months of hormonal surges) or he may not. If you cannot increase the number of ladies for your rooster, you just may have to rehome him.

You did ask if it would be best for everyone, and the answer to that question is YES.

I'd try to rehome him. Roosters, even the same breed, vary in their temperament. I have had ("had" past tense) a couple of pretty aggressive Silkie roos. The one I have now is a dearie!

thank you. there is no way i can get anymore. im only allowed 6 "poultry" of any kind in total. so i am over my limit with the ducks and chickens already.. im thinking to just rehome him as beautiful as he is
