wrong or right decision... please weigh in.

Some things to try:

Give him his own plastic dog kennel in the coop. At night, lock him in - that way he cannot bug the girls or the ducks until you let him out in the morning. You can free range him while the girls are shut in the run and leave him in the run while the girls free range. Or build him his own "pen with run" and only let him with the girls every couple days.

When you see him do something you do not like (breed the girls in front of you, be nasty to a duck, stand on his head - what ever) grab him and pick him up. Knock him off of hens or pick him up off of them. When my roos do anything I do not like, I scoop them up and stop what they are doing.

Many cockerels who grow up with a roo in the flock, learn their manners from both the mature hens and the roo - both will kick a young, mannerless cockerel's bottom when he needs it. If you do not have a mature roo, or mature hens - then you need to be the mature leader and teach him manners.

If your girls are huddled, scared - that is no life for them. From what you describe he sounds either very young with no manners (under 6 months) or is just an abusive cockerel/roo. I can understand loving him, but it does not sound like your girls love him

Do not let him harrass your ducks - that is a deal breaker for me - both cockerels who picked on ducks here when to freezer camp quickly. The sharp beak of a chicken can really hurt a duck - scalp them or worse.

i have decided that as long as i find a good home.... hes outta here
