I have a silkie with wry neck. Her head is pretty much upside down. This is the third time it's happened in the last two weeks. For the two previous times we brought her inside and gave her a single vitamin E capsule. Within a matter of hours she was looking great and we sent her on her way. About a week later, same thing happened - and again, within a few hours of the vit E her head was right side up... S Friday she was upside down again. I brought her inside again and gave her some more E. Within a few hours she was still upside down and I was leaving on vacay for the weekend so I gave her a 2nd. My DH gave her one on Saturday and I gave her another and started Sellenium on Sunday. She's had two more doses today and is still completely upside down showing almost no improvement. I doubt it's injury because she had showed improvement the other two times so quickly...

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I am sorry to hear your silkie has wry neck. I recently had to put ours down for this.

Her quality of life would not have been very good.

Good luck with your silkie.

The way I deal with wry neck is I give them polyvisol 3 times a day, just a drop, plus one full capsule of Vitamin E. My silkies always, ALWAYS got worst before they got better, not sure why but they did. Try adding polyvisol with the vitamin E see if that will help. Sounds like someone keeps pecking at her head. If you can get her to recover, I would probably send her outside but keep her separated for a while until you can find whos criminal. Then sentence them to jail for a while.. lol..

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping not to have to put her down. I've not tried polyvisol, but I've heard a lot about it. I will picks some up and start it this evening.

The polyvisol and vitamin E has always worked for me, it usually takes about 3 or 4 days before the improvement occurs but like I said they usually get worst before they get better.. I had one that completely tucked his head between his legs, it was such a horrible site, I didnt think he would ever recover.. But he did and went back outside..

She's looking better! Still hanging to the side but not completely upside down any more either. We started the PVS and we'll continue that for awhile after she gets better. I'm going to add a dropper full into the general water dish from now on, too. Again - thanks for the advice!

You don't want to give her too much, if you give her 3 drops a day that should be enough until she starts to recover, once she gets her head up then you can decrease the amount each week, another words once she's doing better then following week decrease to 2 drops a day then wait another week then do 1 drop a day same with the Vitamin E, you don't want to just stop once she has recovered because it could very easlier come back. But a dropper of it in the water really isnt necessary because your giving it to her directly. But if you feel like you should just use a dropper per gallon.
