I have a three chickens that I have treated with Tylan 50 after they came down with respiratory issues. They have been separated and this morning when I went to get them out to feed and water them I found that my black Australorp which is about 4 years old had her head laying straight out in front of her on the ground. This is nothing I had seen before. I left her like that and got her food and water. I tried researching this and came across wry neck. I tried giving her some Vitamin E but I am not sure if it is doing any good. This is only the first day and feel horribly but cannot keep up care at this rate with three sick chickens and her needing this care and work.
I need specific instructions (What to buy and how to administer in what portion) on what to do and how to treat her so that she can get better. I had to put her down but it is almost inhumane to have her like this.

Umm I don't think antibiotics can cause issues like wry neck but possibilities are there in some rare incounter because I lost my rooster teetee when I administrate Amoxicillin & Tetracycline

So there's reaction that body create sometimes in rare times ,it happens in 2 out of 10 graphs .
What u can do is now stop tylan and start giving vitamin E gel capsule half in the beak u can give it full if your weight is around 2-2.5 kg

Use human one 400mg vitamin e oil capsule just open the cap and pour in beak it will help u

What about Vitamin B with it or just E? How many times a day do I administer

Body to body medicine reaction differ .
I think you shouldn't able to give tylan now you should try giving something different in the "Salt of medicine" like Doxycycline (Vibramycin)
Baytril they are goof

Yes u can give but give a break of 10-20 mins like if u give bcomplex first wait 20 mins then give vitamin E if u give bcomplex give vitamin E half

And bcomplex dose is in my bottle is 1-2 drops on birds double check the dose on your pack

Welcome To BYC

Can you please post some photos of your hen?

How did you administer the Tylan 50 and what dose did you give?

She's 4 years old, has she ever had respiratory illness before? What are her symptoms?
Did you add new birds recently?

Any chance she ate something moldy, spoiled, rotten or dead animal with maggots?

Head laying straight out in front of her might be Wry Neck, hard to know.

Vitamin therapy may not hurt. If you want to try Vitamin E and B-Complex, give her 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex once a day. Egg or tuna as a treat to help with the uptake of E.

She needs to be hydrated very well.

The first picture is yesterday. She was falling forward and could not walk. The second and third photos are today. She can walk but when she bends over she starts to shake her head and fall forward. It appears as though there is and improvement after I started administering Vitamin E yesterday.

I NEVER had an problems with respiratory issues over the past 4 years of having chickens. No new birds, but we do live in a rural area where there are Ibis, black birds and muskovies making their way in and out which may have been the carrier. It could have just been overdue for them to get sick from feral birds. I know there is a new Avian Flu going around and thought that might be it but they got better and so I feel confident it is not the new Avian Flue

I was administering Tylan 50 2xper day and one time 3xper day when they were bad with wheezing and sneezing. I administered for 5 days and there is no wheezing, coughing or anything that appears to be lingering. They appear the same except for loosing weight and being a little off.

No rotten food.

I am feeding her maseca with eggs and tuna. My spouse has a regular diet of tortillas so he knew that it is the best thing we have found for chickens when they do not eat. I do not know if my chickens are the only ones but they LOVE tomatoes and she eats them. She is also very proper when eating, not like my leghorn who is a pig. She likes only small pieces of food even when she is healthy so I have to cut things in to extremely small pieces and trying to coax her is painfully slow.

Do you normally feed a commercial poultry feed?
I would try introducing that back to her diet as well. You can make a wet mash out of it if you wish, just mix a little feed with water and let it soak for 1/2hr or so, add water if needed to make it mushy.

She's a lovely hen, hopefully she'll start to improve with the vitamins.
Did you give the Tylan50 orally or by injection? Just curious. Seems like the round of antibiotics is over with and her respiratory symptoms have resolved?
