Wry Neck Progression

I got vitamin b drops from walmart. My Cochin hatched with his head touching his back. I started giving vit b right away, and he was better with in a few days. I'd just give him some liquid 2x a day no specific amount. He couldn't eat so all he got for the first day or 2 was liquids. He is perfect now, no problems what so ever.

Good luck with your chick! Let us know what the vet says. I don't think antibiotics could hurt.

My pullet is almost 100% - just a head tilt now - for 3 days in a row. She is still in the house too. I am afraid to put her back out with the others- they are heathens compared to her....it's too early yet anyway.

Will I have to do the B12's occasionally now? She's had 3 shots total....

What type of bird is affected? First, be very careful with your dosage of selenium. While an essential nutrient selenium is also highly toxic when overdosed.

You might try the baby vitamin 'polyvisol without iron'.

I suspected a brain injury in the bird I treated for it- it was a young pullet (silkie) with a large vault that was in with others her own age. The week a few of the young cockerels finally displayed their sex and started acting like rowdy young boys, she started having symptoms of wry neck. I suspected a peck or hard bump to her head affecting the brain and treated it as such (I had access to some anti-inflammatory steroids and did a taper as well as vitamin supplementation).

It worked for me, although the cure was not instantaneous or complete. She continued to show signs for months when stressed/handled. Now she is doing fine, and has not shown symptoms when stressed recently.

Good luck.

the b12 will make a huge difference... it got my guy better soo fast.. and i just did the human liquid drops too.. it woulda cost mt $70 for the vet to give him the shot $40 visit $30 shot.. c'mon.. i know what he needs i know how to do it.. but they wouldn't just sell me the stuff... blah...
anyway... within 2 days of a full dropper of b12 a day mine was holding his head p normal and nly going backwards when startled, but even that's gone now.. he's out in the yard having fun now...
good luck!!

Evonne, I got some injectable Vitamin B Complex at my local feed store. It's called Vita-Jec. Maybe your local feed store will sell it to you.

Thanks, aalbury. I appreciate the help. One more question -- was it .05 cc's? This chick is only less than a week old. I have to go buy a tiny needle.
